Latex is a typesetting language for the production of technical documents that, by definition, convey information in both text and mathematical formulas. Microsoft Word, in contrast, is a WYSIWYG for tasks such as writing memos. Therefore there is no comparison between the two programs.

For any technical document Latex is far superior; it was designed for that task.
